Drupal 7 migration to modern Drupal

Community security support for Drupal 7 ended on January 5, 2025. We move Drupal 7 sites to Drupal 11, keeping your content, URLs and search rankings intact.

Why Drupal 7 sites need to move

A Drupal 7 site still works, but it no longer gets security fixes from the Drupal community. Every vulnerability found since January 2025 is either unpatched or covered only by a paid extended support contract.

The pressure keeps growing in other ways too: hosting providers retire the PHP versions Drupal 7 relies on, contributed modules are abandoned, and fewer developers want to work on the platform. A migration planned now costs less than one forced by an incident or a hosting change.

Migration, not an upgrade

Moving from Drupal 7 to modern Drupal is a rebuild of the site on a new architecture, with your content carried across. Drupal's migration system moves content, users, files and taxonomy. The theme and custom functionality are rebuilt for Drupal 11.

That sounds like more work, and it is. It is also the chance to drop features nobody uses, fix a content model that grew messy over the years and give editors a better experience. We target Drupal 11 rather than Drupal 10, because Drupal 10 reaches end of life on December 9, 2026.

What the migration includes

  • An audit of your content types, fields, modules, integrations and traffic, so nothing important is missed
  • A recommendation on the right target: Drupal 11, Drupal CMS, or in some cases a different platform
  • A cleaned-up content model and automated migration of content, users, files and taxonomy
  • A rebuilt theme, matching your current design or refreshed if you want
  • Custom functionality rebuilt with current Drupal APIs or replaced with maintained modules
  • Every old URL either preserved or redirected, to protect search rankings
  • Repeatable migration runs, so content edited during the project is carried across at launch
  • Testing with your team, a planned launch and support afterwards

How it works

  1. 1

    Audit

We review the Drupal 7 site, its content, modules and integrations, and agree with you what should move, change or be dropped.

  2. 2

    Plan and estimate

You get a written plan with the target platform, the content model and an estimate before the build starts.

  3. 3

    Build and migrate

We build the new site and migration scripts, running test migrations of your real content along the way.

  4. 4

    Review and test

Your team reviews the new site with real content while we check URLs, redirects, forms and integrations.

  5. 5

    Launch

A final content migration, the switch-over and close monitoring of search traffic and errors after launch.

How pricing works

The cost depends mainly on the number of content types and fields, the amount of custom functionality, the integrations and how much the design changes. The audit gives you a written estimate before any build work starts, and we can phase the project if budget or timing requires it.

Frequently asked questions

Can we stay on Drupal 7 a bit longer?
Paid extended security support from vendors certified by the Drupal Association can cover you while you migrate. It is a bridge, not a long-term plan, and the cost of leaving Drupal 7 keeps rising.
Will we lose our search rankings?
Not if URLs are handled carefully. We keep existing URLs where possible and redirect the rest, then monitor search traffic after launch.
Should we move to Drupal 10 or Drupal 11?
Drupal 11. Drupal 10 reaches end of life on December 9, 2026, so migrating to it now would mean another upgrade almost immediately.
Is Drupal still the right choice for us?
Often yes, especially for sites with complex content, many editors or multiple languages. For a small brochure site, a simpler platform may fit better, and we will tell you if we think so.
Can editors keep publishing during the migration?
Yes. Migrations are repeatable, so the final run at launch picks up content added or changed during the project.
